    Los Angeles Lakers @Lakers
Byron: "The decision that was made was to basically take the best player available. ... We really felt this kid was special."

Byron track record with PGs (Kidd, CP3, and Kyrie) makes me believe he knows a thing or two about guards. Plus playing with Magic all those years

One thing to keep in mind with Russell. He has never had players like Randle and Clarkson to pass to and play off of. No one on that OSU team is sniffing the NBA D league. Russell's game is going to enhance.

Earlier in the year when I was praying we'd be able to keep our pick, Russell was the guy I wanted. But I never thought we'd have the opportunity to draft Okafor. Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed. I think both guys will be really good players right away, but I still think Okafor has the potential to be more dominant.

But as others have said, I trust in Mitch. I think he saw big things in Russell and has plans to sign a front court star. I'm excited to see what Russell can do and I'm excited to see what Mitch does in these upcoming weeks.

the kid has a ton of talent but I hope we didn't make this pick based on the thought that the league has changed because of the GS Championship. I think a lot of stars aligned for that to happen. I don't see the league shifting to not having to have dominant play up front going forward. It was a strange year for GS. OKC falling apart and then CLE injuries etc.

I think there is another shoe about to drop. We make the Kobe trade and then the Shaq signing back in the day. We can only hope for something like that here.

Im dreaming but say we nab Aldridge this summer and Durant comes on aboard later on.

    Russell
    Clarkson
    Durant
    Randle
    Aldridge

    That's just deadly.

If Russell is as good as advertised...he'll give the business at all these elite West point guards and not back down. Clarkson did just that.

    Welcome D'Angelo!!!!!

I wanted Okafor too but now I'm past that and really looking forward to our dynamic frontcourt of Clarkson/Russell. He's going to be a star! In Mitch we trust!!

And I have to admit that I prefer Russell's personality over Okafor's.

Agree bonk... There's confidence that we are getting a high quality big thus the passing on Okafor. If that is indeed the case, then Russell is an understandable pick. I like Aldridge as a player but won't mind having a 5 that will do all the dirty work. Set screens, board and protect the rim...and be fed the ball every so often. Oh and welcome aboard btw!

I don't want to turn this into another Okafor debate thread but I will say I don't think it was a split second thing.

The negative talk on Okafor started coming out the last couple of weeks. Some felt like he was being unfairly singled out but I felt like there was more to it. The criticisms seemed valid particularly with his defense and free throw shooting and then his conditioning and work ethic. I think we decided those concerns were valid. Combine that with everyone being wowed by Russell and here we are.

That second Okafor work-out must have been a real downer... The most important issue for me is to see Russell stay healthy so he can show what he is capable of and not have his further development derailed. Johnson has tweeted that he likes how he gets his teammates involved so that in itself is a plus.
