If we do strike out on a C in free agency , I am dead serious when I say Black will and can hold his own. He can take on the draymonds and deandres.

We could have trade talks ongoing that could land us the C we need. It would mean getting rid of one of the young guys but that could explain the certainty that we made that pick with. Maybe Randle is in play for a C in a sign and trade scenario. For once we have cap room and can do these types of maneuvers.

I feel a lot of D'Angelo's weaknesses are correctable. His defense needs improvement but its about effort, not skill. Kobe and Byron will correct that.

    Thats sick!

I didnt even pay attention to him because i thought we were drafting jah but now im seeing the steph curry similarities and it feels good

I LOVE steph curry and i always thought he'd be a great player if he overcame his ankle injuries and he won a title this year

I'm floored honestly. Do you know I never even bothered to look at this kid's highlight reel because I was so sure we take one of the two centers :D

Oh well, I said in Mitch I trust, and the fact that Jerry West said this kid is the best player in the draft means I totally trust the pick.

Wealcome to the Lakers Russell!!

DR is a bit of a surprise, as they say never trade big for small which we essentially just did. Especially when you actually need a big. I think the Buss hereditary gambling bug may have had an effect here and previous gambles with drafting players with upside (Bynum) may have had an influence on Jim's incredible wealth of experience [/sarcasm] in the draft.

I look at it this way, we all prepared mentally for Okafor but I was going to be slightly disappointed on not getting Towns or Russell either. The top 3 were all with their strong points. Bottom line is that we were in a good position this year for once in that the top of the draft was pretty strong and we were actually in it so all choices were basically "going with this guy but I wonder how these other 2 will pan out". I'll roll with the FO's call here and put out positive vibes that it works out for us and Russell/Randle are the next Stockton/Malone.

Me either until a couple days ago. For some reason all the 710am guys started putting him as a must to go to the Lakers. The concensus is that he has the highest chance of becoming a super star of anyone in the draft.

So maybe there is a little karma in the world and we just got our young CP3 on a cheap-a** rookie contract.

I really wanted Jah, but oh well. Welcome to LA, Deangelo. Crossing my fingers we have a big man lined up in free agency or via trade.

I posted this earlier but I will pull it out again. A few takeaways
    • Russell can identify targets in twenty-four hundredths of a second, the fastest reaction time ever recorded by Sport Science.
    • Russell can sling a pass up to 40 m.p.h., which is LeBron James territory.
    • Passing vision also on par with Lebron
    • When tested, Russell was able to "thread the needle," with 80% accuracy

He was just interviewed and he said he is going to wear the #1 jersey. I hope he turns out to be our Steph Curry! I am excited by that possibility!

I like it, he has more superstar potential than Okafor. West's endorsement is as big as it gets.

Hell if he's our poorman's Curry, we struck gold.

    Welcome aboard young fella!

With the way Randle can drive the ball (and if he develops a shot) paired with a guy like Russell who can pass the rock well and hit a ton of 3's (potentially) ... man that'd be a great inside out game. Just need a quality big to supplement that. Shooting, Inside, and driving. That's the package right there.

Obviously I wanted Jahlil the whole time, but I'm coming around. I said picking him meant big things because it means Mitch saw something I don't see. That means Mitch sees star here where I don't. I'm excited to see what I've been missing.

That being said, earlier today at work I thought about seeing Clarkson and Russell flying around the perimeter defensively. I think Russell will be a better offball defender than on the ball. And I think the vision he has will be best utilized with other athletic guys (obviously I suppose). I think he and Jordan and Julius will make a pretty fun trio for young cats.

Welcome D'Angelo! I'm ready to be proven wrong.
