Is he counting AD’s trade kicker?

He was assuming AD waived the trade kicker. His worst case number was the 27.4 number we have seen

Let’s play the low hanging fruit, media game....

Lonzo injury prone, no consistency, gets paid in two years
Ingram blood clots, gets paid next year
Hart so so role player, tough but on ball defense and shooting is sketchy

Picks 8, 17, 35 - Maybe get a good player, otherwise picks aren’t valuable after the name gets called

Lakers 2021 or 2022 pick - 20s at best, role player
Lakers 2023 - Lakers better, no swap
Lakers pick in 2024-2025 - We get to choose, they get a worse pick

Cap space - Ain’t no one signing in New Orleans

    We got to keep Kuzma

Anthony Davis for # 4 and spare parts and future crappy picks...

    Lakers dominated!!!!!

There are still plenty of opportunities to include our 3 young players to get to that max number:

The same "cap guru" said it was impossible for the Lakers to get max cap space 2 days ago on the same show. He's lost credibility with me.

I think he was going off of the assumption the trade was exactly what was being reported. If the trade stays the same, he's right. We can't get a full max deal. The only way we can is if the framework of the trade changes. Bonga, Wagner and Jones must be included in the AD trade itself, not a separate one.

I said he is the "cap guru" because that is what he is. His website is an FAQ regarding the CBA that is very informative.

    http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm

Well worth the read if you are into figuring out the details.

I agree with Savory though, his comments, and the numbers I posted, were about what we could get to if we did the deal separately from the AD three team trade, since nothing official has been reported that we have an actual deal in place with Atlanta to clear the space.

Looking back at draft night, the 4th was used by Griff to dump Solomon and take in 8,17,35. We had the 4th and we weren't looking to dump salary (we had no bad contracts impeding our own free agency), so what do you think ATL offers us for the 4th without a salary dump attached...maybe 8,10,35 and future picks?

Look at what the Suns did...good gawd! The dumped TJ Warren with the 32nd to the Pacers for cash. They also traded the 6th for Saric & 11th. The Suns clearly are angling for a PG in free agency with two being RFAs in DLo and Rozier. So the strong rumors where the valued Zo holds some weight.

So had we traded Zo/4th, we potentially could have got back some combination of 6,8,10,11,32,35,Warren,Saric to offer for AD. A whole lot more different scenarios and opportunities with that collection of assets compared what we're determined to give up now...which is everything other that Kuz and we still works have the full 32.7m to offer Kawhi or offer AD his entire trade kicker so that he gets paid more via extension.

Anyways, I'm interested to see how this all plays out, but one thing is absolutely sure in my mind...we could have finessed our capsheet much more efficiently than what appears to be our current handle on it.

Maybe there's some truth to other GMs not wanting to talk to Rob.

Maybe you just want to believe the worst about Rob with your tireless defense of Magic? Maybe Rob approached Griffin about that "best way" for us and Griffin was not motivated to help at all? Maybe no one wants to help the Lakers build a super team rather that hating Rob?

Totally agree. I still think that if we only have the 24 million and we sign D'Lo and Collison with the Room Exception to be our guards, we will have no trouble filling out our bench with guys like Korver, McGee, Melo, Caruso, etc. A starting five of AD/Kuz/Lebron/Russell/Collison is the best in the league with KD being down next season. And 3 of those 5 guys are under 27

Regardless of his reasons for his feelings on Rob (which may be slightly tilted due to Magic), I still think he's right.

Maybe understand the gist of the CBA before making such broad strokes to the intent of my post.

I couldnt care less if it's Rob or asst GM Jesse Buss. We could have went about using our cap a whole lot more effectively.

Getting here has been a 3 summer process in dumping bad money and cleaning our books while loading up (and lucking into) assets. Once we operate as an over the cap team with our max spots taken up, I wouldnt be as critical or skeptical about what's been done.

But till then, my posts will continue to upset you. And btw Magic's been gone for 3 months. Keep it moving...

    Care to elaborate?

And Magic with his TV appearance did so very much to help the Lakers and especially Rob get through the rest of the process where we stole NO's marque player a year early after trying to do it a year and a half early?

    Bro worst case scenario:

    Build around LeBron/AD/Kuz/THT

I think any team or GM would love this problem plus we have 24-27 million to spend on solid role players.

    Doom and gloom???
