Where is this being reported? I haven't seen anything saying the Lakers got themselves into the Atlanta part of the deal.

It’s the Lakers pick via NOLA. It’s the three way trade that allows NOLA to send our pick to them.

I’m sure we’ll hear details of Wagner, Bonga, Jones being moved later.

OK. I was hoping you had seen something official on us clearing the cap space. Right now it just seems like our hope that it happens. We'll see how this plays out....hope your right.

Go back a couple pages, once news broke that ATL traded for the 4, everyone posted how they knew Rob had made it happen. Its only a matter of time.

This part has not been reported. You keep saying that like the three of them being included is reported. Maybe it is, but there aren't even whispers of that yet.

If we are including the three contracts, I don’t think we’ll hear about it until after July 1st. If we don’t get an agreement from a max, we probably keep them. But my guess is we already have a framework in place for sending them out if we do get an agreement from a max guy, probably to Atlanta with some extra incentives.

I didn’t say it was exactly, but my feeling is that it will be. The dominoes just seemed to point that way starting with the trade to ATL. It just makes too much sense.

All of that can’t happen until July 6 anyway.

Big time acquisition. Lakers need to be competitive otherwise he's walking next summer. I love this move. Gotta take a risk if you want to win big so I'm loving this.

Cap experts, why does LA want to buy 2nd rounders? I know they count for 0 until signed, but why get them?

Do they replace cap hold of 900k (I was told no by someone)? If not, what benefit does this bring for us in terms of a max?

Extra bodies really. Cheap players that don’t count against the cap until signed.

in this case we have an 18 year old that's 6'4 and 235 lbs with a 7'1 wingspan. He can handle the ball, plays some D, and has a decent enough stroke that he should be able to improve. This is a great pick at 46.

Pretty much. If we’re planning to sign a max player, we need as many bodies as possible, if anything, it’s gives us depth.

We literally traded 4 (maybe 7) for 1.

That’s the only impact on the cap? I was under the impression that it somehow helps us create more $ for free agency.

We need to fill out the roster, we need 14. Second round picks are a great way to do it. Super cheap and a ton of upside. Normally don’t create any locker room trouble either.

Also they don’t count against the cap until they’re signed.

No, the way we would be able to create more money is to include Wagner, Bonga, and Jones in the trade with the Pelicans and Hawks.

That will put the salary we send out within 125% of AD’s salary which saves us from the 15% penalty we would face if we didn’t which would have put us at only having $23M if AD didn’t waive his trade kicker or $27M if he did.

But by getting those salaries within 125%, we would save an additional $5M putting us at the max salary level of $32M all WITHOUT having to wait until July 30th and allow us to finalize by July 6th like everyone wanted.

Ok this is all what I originally thought, then I got confused thinking you could replace cap hold with a 2nd, but I guess not.

    Thanks

Idk why we had to send a future 2nd though and other teams just gave cash. Unless we gave very little cash and will use the rest to dump Mo, Jones, and Bonga. I feel like Mo has value of a couple 2nds though. Bonga and Jones -one 2nd and cash? So we should get back at least a 2nd too.

I still don't get how we fill rest of our team out decently with a max guy

Room Exception and Minimum contracts is all we’ll have.

But would you really complain with Lebron/AD/Kawhi leading that charge? I for sure won’t lol.
