They were talking about family and how now AD is playing for more then just himself.

Just to quell any concerns, Anthony Davis has communicated to Lakers management that he intends to resign with the Lakers, barring any drastic events. He's leaning towards a maximum deal, but him and Rich Paul plan to evaluate all possible deal structures at a later date. Lakers management and Davis both are aligned on featuring him as a cornerstone of the franchise moving forward. Rich Paul has instructed Davis to be noncommittal to the media on all free agency questions, but nobody internally is concerned.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he does a 1+1 so he can get the 10 year supermax in 2022.

Dude needs 3 more seasons to be 35% max eligible (burnt that shortcut down with demanding out of Nawlins and the supermax).

So the most we can offer him is a 5yr full 30%max deal, but I think he takes a 3+1 deal instead...opts out that optional 4th year and re-ups at the 35% max in the summer of '22.

Of course the anxiety of his opt out could have been avoided had we paid the Klutch tax to AD via his full trade kicker, rather than pay Kcp. With his full trade kicker AD would have been paid 31.2m this year (which is not that far off the 32.7m 30%max). This would have then enabled us in January to offer a 3yr extension at that near 30% max number and it would have taken him all the way to the summer of '22, when he can re-up. Also (not that it would happen), but with an extension he can't be traded for a full calendar year.

    Not worried about him leaving.

    - He and Klutch put in work to get him here and he has no regrets about how it went down.
    - He's recruiting. You don't do that when you aren't all in.

    - they are great friends and wanted to play together.

None of that applied to Coward. He only deserved death stares from Kobe.

@vasashi17 The 5 year deal is his current preference. I have heard the 3+1 and also a 2+1 (not sure why but maybe you can elaborate) are being considered too. But as I stated, him and Rich Paul have yet to sit down and hash this out. And there's no rush to do that right now.

I also don't think he would have taken the extension even with the trade kicker. As far as I understand, he fully intends to enter free agency this summer.

I now hate AD. People who answer their phones in movie theaters need to all be sent to Greenland to live out their days in a cold barren wasteland with no movie theaters.

If AD was answering phone calls during free agency in your movie theater I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with it.

"The Lakers mortgaged their entire draft future in order to acquire Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans."

Didn't trade away picks for the next few years... the Lakers MORTGAGED THEIR ENTIRE FUTURE :Lonzoreally:

If I recall the details correctly, the Pelicans literally only have 2 more first rounders from us aside from the swaps.

People have REALLY overblown how much draft assets we gave up. Nowhere near close to what the Clips gave up for Paul George.

Have heard people joke that the draft should be hosted in New Orleans or OKC for the next decade. Joke doesn’t come close to actually making sense for New Orleans.
