The years are pretty arbitrary to be honest. As I understand it, as long aw we make a 1st round pick, we can trade our 1st the following year. But let's say that's untrue.

    Deng/#25/2020 1st/2019 2nd/2020 2nd for #30. That's highway robbery to be honest.

Stepien rule: you can't trade 1st round draft picks in successive years.

But like khmrp said, you can technically draft @25 and then trade the draft rights to that player along with our 2019 1st rounder along with our 2021 1st rounder and so on and so on after the draft.

Btw, I love that deal for the 30th, Real.

It doesn't have to be our specific pick, just a pick in the first round, but since we actually own our picks it technically doesn't matter. Here's the rule:

So since we have the 25th pick, as long as we make a pick in the first round of this draft, we can trade our 2019 pick without issue.

With my potential trade, we would still have the 30th pick so as long as we made that selection, we could legally trade the 2019 pick as well. So the trade:

Deng/#25/2019 1st/2019 2nd/2020 2nd for #30 is totally legal. The Hawks get 4 picks for literally the least valuable 1st round pick they can offer for two years of Deng? In fact moving up in this current draft? That's a damn steal for them and we still net a 1st rounder out of it. I think it makes a lot of sense for both sides.

So we got screwed by giving up future picks trying for homeruns in the past.

But I don’t care, I would give up any legal combination of our picks (this year and future) to get rid of Deng’s contract without taking back salary. Assuming Lebron and George are coming.

Whether we use that to bring back Randle or use it to creatively fit in another star while keeping most of our young core, that would give us the flexibility to become legit contenders to the point where those picks wouldn’t matter.

And it’s not like with Dwight and Nash where we had no young players to begin with. Worst case, we already have a young core we can continue building around without hopefully needing to add any more young draft picks.

That puts it into perspective for me what we need to give up to get rid of deng. Multiple firsts. I like real’s idea, but if they can nab the 4th for taking on parsons they do that all day.

I have a hard time believing that's the steep cost they'd give up to dump that contract. The Grizzlies are team completely lost in the mix. They've got overpriced veterans and are in cap hell. That pick is actually wildly valuable to them as a player.

I could see them trading back, but not giving up that kind of asset just to dump cash. Sounds like someone is trying to drive up dump values.

If the Mavs are down to take back salary for picks...we'll throw them Deng/2018 1st/2019 1st/2nd round picks all day.

I like the idea about trading with ATL...giving them 4 picks plus Deng ...and we get back the 30th pick so we can still draft a guy in this year's draft?

just a thought but if james/pg are in fact a lock, i wouldnt mind throwing vet min at Swaggy....hes a doufus but a lovable one, he got his chip so that xp can only help in addition to his much needed 3pt shooting...pair that with potential huerter pick n suddenly we got legit shooters

i think i definitely take parsons' salary for the #4 in this draft if i have the space. the complication is that most teams have the space AFTER the draft. the mavs have some space right now (13 mil?). they could move matthews/#33/lotto-protected future 1st for parsons/#4, saving memphis some cash this year, giving them a player that they could use next year whilst shedding some salary.

i posted this at another site

    chi-deng, Zubac, 19' 1st, chi 19 2nd returned

atl-asik, 5mill from lal (buys out asik), 21' la 1st (not sure of proterction)

la- top 55 protected 2nd from atl

we help offset deng going to chi by rerouting asik to atl, Asik is owed like 14mill ish between this yr n his partial guarantee, so really theyre paying like 6ish mill for a future 1st l. chi offsets some of deng $ by ridding themselves of asik $. maybe we need to add another 2nd to chi but i feel thats fair for everyone
