and nobody is dumping salary with heavy draft considerations attached. any player of use is being absorbed and RETURNING a pick, which is i'm sure what okc would want in an adams move, for sure. the world being painted doesn't exist. so glad we didn't hold out hope to wait on dumps. that's what dallas is doing now.

please re-read it and just stop. you can't be in a situation wherein you don't have 1sts in any two consecutive drafts in the future. nothing AT ALL about it resulting from the same trade.

Vash to continue your "maybes" that we could have done this or could have done that or Boogie, you or someone else other than Rob could have talked out of $800,000 no prob after what he's lost already ...... possibly a couple birds out in the bush vs the hands full of better birds we have locked now under the time restraint @nzahir mentions above ...... is reaching on steroids. It's all conjecture and there was no time. Westbrook didn't even decide he wanted to think about being traded until when for crissakes? 2-3 days later. House of cards you've built this on IMO.

So you'd sacrifice being a good team for the potential to maybe go get a star? That's a horrible game plan. Meanwhile we're rolling into the season with a depleted team and maybe a couple extra firsts from a team like Miami who is going to sport Russell Westbrook and Jimmy Butler in the East so they'll be winning 45+ games pretty easily. The Thunder aren't giving up 1sts that aren't wildly protected, luxury tax or not because they're now a tanking franchise.

It's one thing to say you'd rather do it your way, which in my opinion is clearly the wrong way, but it's another to claim what we did was somehow messing up. It's downplaying an off-season in which we snatched just about all the best available FAs who were in fact definitely not as bad as people made them out to be. Cousins, Green, McGee, and Cook are all on team friendly deals. That's something that wouldn't be true if we're sitting here on Steven Adams and a couple of late 1sts from Miami. We're a worse team and we lose the window to win a title because our team didn't have any depth or talent across 2/3 positions while we leaned on Dragic or Steven Adams to fill a role they're not good enough to fill.

As for Julius and things like that, I specifically don't blame anybody for those moves (as I do blame Rob for his part in the debacle of the roster last season) but we don't know who made them. The thing is, Magic came out in various interviews and talked about his various mistakes like letting Brook and Julius go. So if he can take ownership, why shouldn't we assign blame to him in some way?

At the end of the day, your narrative that we messed up this summer just doesn't line up with the roster we have. It's a narrative you're trying to create because you don't like Rob.

Not if the trades leave a team without first rounders in consecutive years or even MAY, so regardless of protections.

Harden came in the league at 19 doh. He had 4 years of basketball and one major choke job in the 2012 NBA Finals under his belt.

It was like an extra 2-3M right if we did AD deal first? Not huge, but something.

But if we waited and lost out on Green, then we're even worse off. He was arguably the best truly available sg since we all knew Klay would stay and I count Jimmy as a sf.

    Please take your own advise.

Based on protections, you can. For instance clips gave up Miami's 2021 unprotected 1st round pick.

If we get into a 3 way with Okc and Miami, you can have it where Miami can send out their 2020 pick and Okc strongly protects their 2021 pick so that it isn't likely to convey.

Pick swaps is also another loop hole in getting around the Stiepen rule. Miami's 2020 pick can still be in play just like our 2020 pick can be in play if our protected '21 doesn't convey and gets pushed to an unprotected '22 pick via the AD trade.

Keep fighting the good fight tho.

Harden was better at the same age. Kuzma couldn’t get to the playoffs. This doesn’t help the argument.

took you a while to come up with that b*******.

but you're still wrong. as rodg said, even if it's unlikely, you can't do it.

    miami's picks:

so no way they can move 20 or 22, and they'd have to do weird protections on 24...not even sure if it's possible because it stretches out so far actually.

you are correct in that they could swap 20 or 22. but is that really a big deal? you're not gaining a pick, you're moving up a few spots.

btw, like all of their seconds are gone, too, as if it matters.

    Does Okc own Miami's picks?

If we enter a 3way with them, could OKC and Miami amend pick protections and such to make other picks available via swap or protections?

You guys like to shut down hypotheticals (and the Miami/Russ example is just one), but then completely ignore that we traded away assets on a hypothetical max guy when it wasn't even necessary, cause we didn't even gave him in the bag yet.

    So forget hypotheticals then:

JC, Nance, Jules, TB, Zu, Svi, Moe, Bonga, JJ, future 2nds were lost for a 2nd max slot, that was predominantly filled by Green and reupping Kcp and Mcgee. Whether its exclusively Magic or Rob or joint venture, that's not a good look.

So you would be happy with...

    Bonga /
    JC / Svi
    Lebron / JJ
    Randle / Nance / Moe
    AD / Zu / TB

And a couple 2nd round picks?

    Yikes.

I agree, it's not great, or even good. But that's 20/20 hindsight. We were given strong indications that Kawhi was coming. No way we could know that snake was slithering across the hallway.

they barely own their own. 20 and 22 are protected, so they could send 21 and 23 out on contingency, but it would get super hairy.

miami has very little ability to even renegotiate their protections, and even then, they'd basically have to remove them at some point to free up the future picks--something i'm pretty sure they don't want to do.

wait wait...NOW you're mad about the stupid second max?! sweet merciful christ.

i'd argue it was russell who was lost, tbh. as i would have cleared JC, Nance, and Randle (via trade, not negligence). i would definitely have kept zu's rights. the rest? meh. i'd prefer to have svi right now than had bullock for two weeks, but i don't think he's going to help a team win next year.

but yeah, i never wanted the second max. had we not pursued it, we might have had the kind of quality veteran depth we have now last year. what they did this year is what i wanted last year.

Yeah Kuz isn't Harden at all.

But I feel like the pendulum has swung from getting a bit too much praise to him now getting a bit too much criticism. He was still a great pick and I expect him to show improvement with another season under his belt and (hopefully) better coaching. I think he can be a good player and steady contributor on a winning team.

I'd be happy if you sacrifice our assets for a legit 3rd max guy.

Otherwise why not get at least future 2nd round picks for them.

TB and Zu had cheap capholds. Moe, Svi, Bonga, JJ have cheap deals. So it depends on how much Jules & Nance's (I guess no Moe then) supposed deals would be on our capsheet. JC is an expiring deal. Kcp is probably still in the loop cause he's independent of what occurred in regards to the 2nd max guy and we have his early bird rights.

Boogie, Caruso, Rondo, Daniels, Dudz and THT would still be in the loop cause they all near vet money anyways. AvBradley still gets the room exception.

So our real loss is only 32y/o Danny Green and possibly Mcgee (vet min of 2.7m vs his current deal of 4m). Yeah, I can live with that.

The only part I disagree with is that if we've got a chance at a star, I still want the star. I think we can win with two max guys and this crazy deep team, but I think historically the team with the most stars wins so we have a chance at a star, I'd prefer to take that chance more often than not.

Of course, everything else has to make sense. This was probably the first summer in 7 years we made a lot of sense for a star to join.

I think everyone here, me included wish the Lakers won the Kawhi/DLO/Kyrie etc sweepstakes. But at the end of the day, Rob did an excellent job signing still in their prime vets and potential high reward, low risk guys in DMC and Avery Bradley (only 28 years old). Also we traded for AD while keeping cap and keeping a young stud in kuzma (who's going to continue to get stronger and improve). With health hopefully on our side this year, i believe this team can win a championship. Clippers won't stop our deep pf center roster. We have defenders to make things harder for Kawhi and George in green, Bradley, Caruso, etc. I love this team
