Just completely missed my point which that despite how poorly that team was designed (use whatever adjective you like) they were performing well before the injuries, my point is just imagine how well this team will do with some actual basketball acumen being applied in our roster building (and assuming some health)

His cap hit is 3.5m this year so as a non-bird, we can only sign him up to 4.2m next summer if we're capped out (and we will be with all our 2 year deals if they're not moved).

So the most we can give him next summer is the non-tax payer MLE of about 10m and we can sign him to a max 4 yr deal with 5% annual escalators (ie 4yr/43m).

    Hope that helps.

Nice to know we can get that 10M start at least. Probably not as much as other teams would pay if he starts looking like 80% Boogie again. If we were to win a chip or go really deep and DeMarcus is enjoying Laker life and playing with Bron and AD how much is he willing to give up especially with what his achilles has already cost him. Long way off and games to play.

Thanks Vash, I hope he accepts it, we need someone to accept non-max contracts for a chance to win a ring

If he really likes it here, he might be willing to sign for the MLE, then $18M or so the following year with Early Bird rights.

    You got it bud!

We're capped out next year (coulda had in the neighborhood of 25m in space with just Bron/AD/Kuz on the roster). So all we have in our arsenal is that non-tax payer MLE next summer for a pretty weak free agent class.

So why the 2 year deals? It lines up with Bron's player option and gee..honest-ly who could be the free agent we target 2 yrs from now?

I'm wondering...If Boogie gets down this year and returns to form are we able to sign him above the cap next year?

I don't agree. Case in point.

He is what he is. I believe that with other top dogs like Lebron, AD and Rondo on the team, his antics won't infect the rest of the pack, while his superior skills will bring great benefits. Expecting Demarcus not to act like "Boogie" is not a realistic expectation. It's like expecting Dwight Howard not to miss FT's. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Boogie will be boogie...he will have meltdowns.

But if he is not a cornerstone player...you can handle it a little better. And on a winning team usually frustrations don't reach peak levels.

I was asking that after only getting through 4 pages of this thread. I didnt read all 11. Thanks though I skipped up and saw it.

Was curious because if he plays well and looks to be back in order wouldn't mind signing him for a few years but he isnt gonna accept another deal like this year

Boogie needs to drop 30 pounds...then he will have a much better chance of being the old boogie.

He has now suffered back to back lower body injuries...less weight certainly makes him less prone and more mobile.

Im ECSTATIC about the Boogie signing...and tbh he's a good fit with the starters AND the bench.

Boogie is going to be motivated than ever playing with LeBron & AD too...and he's played with AD/Rondo before.

If Boogie can replicate those 30ish games he played for Warriors during the season (16/8), we will have knocked this one out of the park by a mile.

Don't forget Boogie is an excellent passer and he is a great offensive rebounder - he will create more possessions for us and he's ab ig body to go against the other bigs in the league

Not to mention he'll preserve AD's body by banging with the bigger centers in the league. AD should have solid load management too with Cousins & McGee around.

Also...gonna be hard for teams to score on us

I think he's going to be way better than last year, achilles injuries take a year+ of playing for it to get better. Last year was his rehab year. This year will be his comeback year. The more I think about it, boogie needs to start with AD, even though boogie can't jump as high, he's still a strong big body so AD will be the shot blocker while DC gets the rebounds. While kuz and McGee complement each other off the bench

Yeah I'm starting to think the same thing on DMC. He should start. I think he plays better as a starter too and I don't think he came here to come off the bench. He started alongside AD before and they worked beautifully together. Throw in LeBron and 2 more shooters (Green and Bradley or Green and KCP or Green and Kuzma) and the floor will be spaced and our D will be among the best in the league.

I'd bring Boogie along slowly and definitely manage his minutes to start the season. He rushed back twice with the Warriors last year.

Biggest thing for him right now is to focus on getting in shape and shedding pounds as others have mentioned.
