I would trade anyone for AD...anyone means anyone.

But there is a difference between anyone and everyone.

I wouldn't trade Kuzma, Lonzo, Ingram, Hart, #4 , rest for AD...

Yes we get AD who is better than the 3 aforementioned together. But is AD alone that much better than those 5 assets? Probably not enough. At least not enough to go from 35 wins to 60 wins. Therefore it is a risky deal and only worth is if you have a 3rd horse who is ready to join our team in FA.

With Pelinka (the biggest turd on planet earth) at the helm...I expect nothing but sucking.

I would easily give up those assets if we get to keep Ingram or Ball. Otherwise its still a fair trade but a fair trade doesn't improve us enough. We need to make a jump which means we need to get a trade in our favor.

But at the same time, that offer is damn good compared to what other stars are traded for. It's sad, but the "Laker tax" is 100% real. I suffer the same making fantasy football trades because of my history of dominance. Life's a B.

There was a guy in our league like that. IF he wanted to make a trade, you never took his initial offer, even if it was the perfect trade for you. Poor James. He suckered us too many times.

We can't pass on AD because we don't think Rob can build a team around him. Chances to land that kind of talent don't come up often as we have clearly seen over the last few years.

You grab him and you let it play out. It's a gamble worth taking.

If Rob fails then it ends up being yet another reason to get rid of him. We'd still have a huge piece to build around for the next person who took over (probably Kurt Rambis but still).

We need to agree to the terms of the trade now, but wait until July 1st to actually pen the deal. That way we can sign a max FA, then trade for AD. If we trade for AD before the draft we’re filling out the rest of the team with tier 3 FAs.

Yeah. If that's the argument (that Rob isn't good enough to build a team around TWO generational talents), why would you trust him to build one with kids who's skills aren't a perfect match, and each one having a severe limitation to their game.

my argument is present n future, AD has shown he cannot carry a team, james has what 1 or 2 good yrs left barring anymore injuries, a bunch of old ring chasing vets with ad equals the pelicans again

Uhhh if you trade for AD and delay the deal becoming official you have a max space to work with.

    AD/Lebron + Pat Bev + JJ Redick
    AD/Lebron/Max FA

Yea give me my two options every time. You paying Ingram and then Zo, then Kuz, then Hart? Because that’s on the horizon and they all are going to want that bag. Try to keep the one or two that you are comfortable paying or you are going to A.) Lose them for nothing (Randle) or B.) Stuck paying max for someone you aren’t quite sure on (DAR).

I see a lot people just assuming the people that want to trade for AD just want to give up everything and get it over with, when in reality we all want to give just enough to get the job done. Which if history is any indicator, that’s what it will be.

To me AD trumps the kids, is easier to pay now and in the future and is a better selling point to future free agents.

Look past this offseason, rookie contracts don’t last forever. Time is ticking.

totally agree. and i think now that griffin's in charge, it does. he publicized what he wants on purpose, and i think that's the fair way to handle things (and the best for him). if portland wants to offer mccollum/collins/2 1sts, they probably trump us and griffin takes that deal. if boston wants to offer tatum/brown/2 1sts, he probably takes that deal. if ny wants to offer all their youth, the #3, and offers to absorb any bad salary, maybe that's more than we can do in his eyes (i beg to differ on this one, though).

point is that it's going to cost. A LOT. players of davis's caliber are rarely available, particularly at 26 years old. it's almost unheard of. it should be about as expensive as trades get, leverage or no.

i'll be pissed if i find out we offered the house and they took something s***ty. but that hasn't really happened to us yet.

with george, we made a s*** offer, and they took a less s***ty offer that turned out to be great in hindsight (oladipo-who knew?)
with leonard, they wanted something (allstar) we didn't have. someone else offered it. we lost.
with davis, they want an allstar +. we don't have it. if someone else offers it, they'll get him. if nobody else does, we'll have to dig deep to convince them our suboptimal offer is better.

davis will make 32 million next year. the following season, he will probably opt out and get 38. that same year, ingram will be eligible for what, 28 per? at that point, which do you think you'd rather have? hart and kuz won't be getting sub-2 million for long, either. clarkson went from everyone's favorite son to a pariah the second he got just over the MLE...

    short memories.

get the 26 year old mvp candidate.

But the argument has been made before in this thread; Kobe couldn't either. Kobe's second best player for a couple years there was Lamar Odom. AD's was Jrue Holiday. After those guys, both the Pelicans and the Lakers' rosters were equally pitiful. Kobe finished only 2 games above .500 in that two year stretch and got bounced in the first round both times. The point is, especially today in the Western conference, you need a second all-star level talent and some decent role players to even think about winning a series.

If they were so above average and didn't have have the other concerns I've listed (injury prone, none sniffed the playoffs), then the pelicans would accept them all right now. None of them have shown anything more than "flashes".

Take off your Lakers goggles once in a while and try being objective.

holiday played less than 70 games between 2013 and 2015, and played less than 70 in every other season but 2017-18 (when they won a playoff series due to higher seeding).

kobe had odom and near prime caron butler (he would be an allstar shortly thereafter) and missed the playoffs. odom and butler had taken wade to the second round of the playoffs the year before, iirc.

so when davis was hurt he's fragile, and when kobe was hurt, it's an excuse.

and the fact that jrue holiday has been shelved for an average of more than 20 games per year during his tenure with AD doesn't matter.

    got it.

yeah, that's posturing. nobody's giving him unprotected picks, and two of his biggest suitors have top-5 picks to offer right now. he'd be foolish to wait. and he knows it.

I’d be a lot happier if we got AD, plus another all star player. Lebron is 12 years old in dog years and has more mileage then Snoopy on his body. He will look fantastic next year because of all the rest he’s had but I think that’s the last year of his dominance and health. If we trade away all the kids, we will be left with just AD (and a broken down Lebron) again in another year. I hate to think that I’ve suffered through 5 years of crap teams and ghost town game threads to have 1 year of a chance for a ring.
