Josh Johnson has been released, as I'd imagined. Will be interesting to see: who takes that spot for now (if anyone) and whether it's Manuel or Cook who gets the nod in the end.

Another Penn State guy. I trust Gruden when it comes to QBs. I take it both our other QBs are gone now. Otherwise, why the hell did we give up a draft pick?

We add two DL's Rucker and Rubin...

McGinest of NFL-TV's "Total Access" sez 10-6 and we barely make the postseason.

This is not good. Per Rotoworld.com:

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Raiders fear imminent league discipline for Martavis Bryant.

Per the Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken, Bryant's imminent discipline is believed to pertain to the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Bryant, of course, missed all of 2016 due to substance-abuse-policy violations. Gehlken confirms any further substance-abuse infraction could cost Bryant another year, or longer. With ex-broadcaster Jon Gruden replacing Reggie McKenzie at the Raiders' personnel controls, Oakland dealt the No. 79 overall pick for Bryant in late April.

Yep...heard that. It's been hanging over the Raiders for over a week now. Bryant is projected to start with Nelson and Cooper at the slot.

Here comes the old raiders bad luck characterized by dumb moves. I’m not going to deal with another underachieving season.

Rhetorical, but why do I feel like the ghost of Al Davis, in his final years, is back to haunt this team now that Chucky is back?...

Rhetorical, but why does Mark Davis remind me of Jimmy Buss in that he is trying to keep “Dad” alive by managing backwards?...

    Sigh...

Gruden and Davis had philosophical differences... Gruden was a West Coast offense protege who learned under Holmgren while Davis still clung to his archaic 1970's Vertical Offense of throwing downfield. Gannon wasn't Lamonica.

Mark Davis is UNLIKE like his father who meddled in everything from play-calling to what types of players to draft. Jamarcus Russell, Heyward-Bey, Gallery. Mark Davis has given McKenzie leeway in his choices.

Oh and this crew underachieving? If Gruden finds those types, he'd clear them out. He did it before and he'd do it again.

Yet Gruden talks bringing rain sees football. I took that to mean Al Davis football.

Papa and Flores out, Musburger and...someone...in.

Honestly, Musburger is one of my all-time faves.

Extension talks for Mack at nil... Would like to see it resolved as a fan. Did not care for Gruden's crack about our D even if it was warranted.

Hurst from reports looks to be a steal. Looking for the same with Key and Nelson. Conley injured again...two weeks with hip strain.

I didn’t see this drama coming with Mack and I don’t like it. Overpay for the coach, and play hardball with the leagues top 3 defensive player. Wonderful.

Sounds like something the Raiders would do a few years ago, but I thought the Reggie Era was a sign of progression from ownership. Nah.

...and I am having Byron Scott parallel concerns about Gruden being hired now. Maybe brass thinks they have a replacement in Key. Just throwing stuff at the wall.

Exactly. In many ways I felt the Lakers and Raiders were going through the same thing during their losing streaks. It felt like Marc Davis and Jimmie were one in the same. Similar circumstances with their Father’s having passed alway. But when McKenzie was hired I felt like the direction was starting to change, as I see the Lakers now that Magic is here. The problem is Marc is still in control. Gruden is a safety blanket for him from the past. Move forward. Rams got rid of Fischer and got new blood. The Raiders hire Fischer in the form of Gruden.

    PJ Hall - big sack.
Lynch - big run (called back).

    Not bad, kids.
