Sitting in the lobby for a Dr. appointment this morning I spotted the new May 2017 Sports Illustrated and hadn't seen or read one in a long time. This kid was on the cover and the title is something like Lebron James in a Baseball Uniform. That's like 7 miles from my house but had never heard of this phenom before today. Certainly will be worth keeping an eye on his career. He's really accomplished in many areas of his life. LOL they're even throwing out the unicorn smack. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/04/24/hunter-greene-mlb-draft Then again maybe it didn't need its own thread. But if Kobe Bryant had been his same HS phenom and from the valley he would have needed his own thread because of his prodigious talent.
Shohei Otani is another pitcher-hitter. He is 6'3, hit 22 homers last year, batted .322, and went 15-5 with 190 Ks. Allegedly has hit 102 mph. Batting over .400 this season. He's 22.
Major League draft is tomorrow 6/12. Greene could be the top pick. He's still 17 years old. http://www.latimes.com/sports/mlb/la-sp-la-preps-baseball-draft-20170609-story.html
2nd to the Reds. Most think they'll use him with the safer bet as a pitcher but he'd rather play as full time SS. Can mash 450' shots at 17. Hitting the tougher gig in MLB over pitching conventional wisdom.
Called it 5 years ago. https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodg...hunter-greene-record-velocity-julio-urias-mlb "Greene, a former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High star making his second major league start in front of family, friends and fellow alums from the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton, reached or exceeded 100 mph more often than any other pitcher since pitch tracking began in 2008. In fact, he obliterated the previous record of 33 100-plus-mph pitches set by the New York Mets’ Jacob deGrom last June. Greene caught and passed deGrom as rapidly as his offerings reached the catcher’s mitt, hitting triple-digits 11 times in the fifth inning alone. He had 39 in the game. “We faced a tough customer in Hunter Greene,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “We had to scratch and claw. It’s a special arm.”
Are you serious with the question? If so yes he’s the real deal and on Angels. I think he won an MVP last year but not certain. Has bounced back well from some procedure on his arm.
