my only issue is who gets cut. huertas? calderon? certainly not robinson given his recent play. my guess is this doesn't happen. i also wonder whether whether he was actually "impressive". seems like you have to say things like this to maintain good relations with agents and such.
We're not tanking man. We're in full developmental mode with the guys we have and with the guys we'll tried to add via free agent or a trade. Also if by some miracle we do keep our 1st rounder this year it will be a 1-3. Anything higher (4-30) goes to Philly.
I have no problem with cutting Metta at this point. Considering how Julius who was supposed to be prime candidate #1 to benefit from giving him a spot last year after working with him the whole off season practically, and again this year ..... is still sucking donkey ****s with basic help defense and other finer points of the art, as well as all the others who are not doing reasonably well with improvement including Robinson, and he can't play any more .... what is the reason to keep him if someone that will actually help the roster becomes available? Huertas and Calderon still have value. If his feelers get hurt and he doesn't want to stay on the staff or he wants to go back to China and be Panda again .... oh well. Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out.
well, i wouldn't put it that harshly, but yes, pretty much. i like metta a lot, just not in uniform at this point. i don't think the lakers are in position to have an assistant coach in uniform at this point. they should keep a roster spot open for d-league call ups and dmo-type opportunities as they arise. but maybe that's what mwp has always been?
I like him too. Just becoming increasingly frustrated. I want my 7-5 Lakers back who came out of the gate playing much better defense than last year according to the early rankings, plus the obviously improved offense. The sticking of that in Boron's face. Don't understand why prime candidate Randle, Metta's #1 project is still so bad at certain things defensively.....while being a "quick" beast physically and strength wise. I do see Ingram on the sidelines listening to him point out things. Did we ever figure out who Luke's #1 player development capable guy formally on the staff is .... who's most responsible for defense? How's Thibb's T-Pup's ranking doing defensively? Must not be great either with all those losses.
it's hard to get young teams to play good defense. you'd still like it better than it has been, but with this group of guys, middle of the pack is the absolute best you can expect, no matter the coach and system.
For the Lakers, it makes no sense to get one year rentals. We are not a product looking for polish. Either the Lakers invest in players that are under team control longterm or it makes no sense to invest in them and they will be gone. Whether we win 27 games (with them) or 23 (without them) doesn't really matter.
eh, i highly doubt his agent strong-armed him into taking the lower offer. if anything, it seems like he wanted out of RFA and did it.
