Curious, what did you think of Get Out?

I loved Get Out so I’m really hyped up for Us. Haven’t seen it yet though.

Dang. “Think itself far more clever than it was” is one of the types of flaws in a movie or show I hate the most too.

But I also like a decent horror movie even if it’s nothing special. Probably gonna check it out tonight and go in with subdued expectations.

Check it out and let me know what I’m missing! It’s still fine as a horror flick, but it’s nothing special.

Yeah, maybe I’m missing something too. I’m not sure if there was some insightful social commentary that went over my head, but it seemed that the movie was just trying too hard.

Peele has some potential as a horror director. There were some really cool scenes visually and I like the way he used the soundtrack to add tension. But then the horror would too often switch tones to try to convey some clever humor that just didn’t land for me.

Feel like I might enjoy it a lot more on a second watch after digesting all the theories and interpretations people online come up with, but a good movie shouldn’t depend on that.

I did some digging. I’ve found some insights, but I think it fails to make the point it might intend to.

    think US’s stance on immigration.

Third Frontier is good enough, I like it because of the actors, great chemistry, big fan of Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac

Really? It's my least favorite Tarantino movie. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but of his movies, that's probably my least favorite. Waltz has some of the best scenes Tarantino has ever put together, but the movie as a whole wasn't as tight as some of his others.

When I saw it in the theater, I thought I'd never watch it again, though I enjoyed it. I've found myself not turning it off when it's one, and I've even gone back to watch it all the way through recently. It's grown on me, in a way that Jackie Brown absolutely hasn't, and I hated Hateful Eight, and I can't imagine I'd sit down to watch it again. I'd put those two below Basterds, for sure.

I've seen a bunch of movies recently.

    Since February:
Aquaman - solid, surprisingly to me.
    The Prodigy - decent fun.
Happy Death Day 2u - I love this franchise.
How to Train Your Dragon - fell asleep. I don't get it.
Fighting with my Family - surprisingly good.
    Captain Marvel - solid.
    Alita - meh.
    Us - decent horror.
Five Feet Apart - I really enjoyed it.

I like horror movies, but so many of them are bland, predictable, formulaic, lame, not scary. This was one of the few that surprised me with its creepy factor, how it didn’t have to hold back thanks to its R rating, and I thought the young cast was excellent, when often it’s very easy for the young members of a cast to ruin or at least really hurt a movie.

The cast was great, i agree (Stranger Things vibe) but something felt off for me.
Have you seen the new Pet Cemetery? If so, is it worth checking out?
Or maybe there is a good horror flick you can reccomend? (I watch most of them with a pillow to cover my eyes with LOL but still wnjoy it).

I haven’t seen that one yet, it’s on my list. I haven’t really seen too many great horror movies in a while, like I said I like them, but good ones are so rare. The Conjuring franchise lame to me, The Curse of La Llorona looks like it was made by the same people, same predictable jump scare crap. I guess I could recommend The VVitch, Apostle, The Ritual, and Hereditary as recent good horror.

    Horror Movie recommendations...
The Invitation - strong, strong recommend. About ten or fifteen minutes in, you might think, "Is Trodgers crazy? This movie sucks." Just keep watching.
I did like the VVitch a lot. I watched it two nights in a row because I liked it so much.
I didn't like IT, at all, but part of that was the CGI. It was so bad it always took me out of the creepiness.
A Dark Song - super weird, super creepy.
I'd also recommend Creep and Creep 2. I think the second one is better, but the first is good, and you really should watch it first.

Watched Shot Caller with Jaime Lannister. It’s a cool flick about ordinary good guy surviving and forever ruined by prison after a simple mistake most of us could easily make.

It's just easier to call him Jaime Lannister. His real name is a pain in the butt to type. I have to look it up every time.
