A few things we know: NOP gave Jules the non-tax MLE, so by doing so, they hard capped themselves at 129.8m. Right now, even with their 10m in trade exceptions, they are well below the apron, so being hard-capped wasn't a concern of theirs. So partaking in a S&T (which would also hard-cap them) is something they wouldn't have minded in taking part in.

Rondo was signed to a 1 year 3.3m deal with NOP and they used part of their non-tax MLE to do so. NOP only had Rondo's non-bird rights this summer, so they could only give him 120% in a pay raise from the previous year (3.96m). If it was a rumored 2 year deal, then they are allowed to include a 5% increase in that offer and that would make the deal about 8m for 2 years. LA obviously said, we'll give you 9m for 1 year of service.

Still, NOP could have then given Rondo about 9m by giving him their non-tax MLE and then conducting a S&T to bring back Jules. Since we had Jules bird rights we could have offered him up to 25.4m in year 1 of this contract. By rule, an outgoing 9m can bring back 14m in salary, so at the very least, we could have re-upped Jules at that amount and have him sent to NOP.

Since S&Ts require that a player re-up on a 3 year deal (with only year 1 of the contract being fully guaranteed), then NOP would have been able to lock in onto Jules for 3 years (and if things don't work out, waive his nonguaranteed portion of the contract).

The fact that this didn't happen implies that Jules/Mintz wanted control of their immediate future....if Jules/Mintz thinks NOP is whack, they opt out next summer using their player option and hit the market. If the market projects to be bad, they can opt in. If they agree to a S&T, they would get more money in the short-term but would have handed the power to the Pels to see if they would have retained or waived Jules after the fully guaranteed year 1 of his contract.

This kind of tells me that Jules and the Pels (like Boogie with the dubs) is not going to be a long term marriage. Next summer, if he opts out, NOP will only have his non-bird rights and can only offer a 120% raise (10.3m). However, they can clear up enough cap space by renouncing Niko's rights and gain nearly 29m in cap space to try to split between Jules, Niko and Payton...they can even let Niko/Payton walk and offer Jules the bulk of that cap space (27.3m is his max next summer), but if NOP does that then they only have 7 players on the roster and are essentially capped out.

Either way, I just don't think Jules sticks there. Cause how are you going to say that you want more playing time but can't get that next to Bron playing as a small ball 5 here, but then head over to NOP and expect to play the 4, when AD has said he prefers to play the 4 rather than the 5 there.

Jules/Mintz are straight dopes for real.

Three more inches of height and Rondo’s frame would remind me of Kahwi, hands and all.

That should translate into more wins over and above what the sweet first units are going to come together to produce. Big advantage. And we have had some special bench mobs in our championship past when our rosters were healthy.

Lebron’s giving the kids bicycles. Rondo is giving them jackets and ties. If the kids are judges, I don’t think it’s much of a contest.

I tell you whaat boy .... now here's an off the court challenge for LeBron. Can he do an interview about film creativity (since that's one of his business interests as well ... as well articulately as Kobe is doing here? I mean Kobe is so smart and soooo well spoken! LeBron we know is smart and well spoken too. This is going to be fun to watch.

.... ONCE HE TRIMS THAT F****** BEARD. THAT THING IS KILLING HIM. BAAD TASTE. HE COULD LOOK A LOT BETTER. SO SAY I.
