Except you're doing it for two more seasons with Deng, so it's longer dead money. I'm not arguing your premise, it's a very well thought out idea.

I'm not sure it's enough for them to take on a couple 2nd rounders or something to save a little cash for now. If I'm OKC, I probably just take the full waive after negotiating the buyout and get out from under the money sooner.

I really really think this will be done if Melo ok's the trade. Makes too much sense for both.

If that were the best solution money wise, they would have done that by now. I think they are looking for a trade first.

i would only give okc 2 2nds for a melo/deng swap, our true $ savings is only 8mill and yes it clears deng off our books in 19x season but should be comparable to howard/moz swap

All they need to do is lose Capela some how and their failure is complete.

Can't lose Capela. No one has any money to offer him a max, correct?

I was being sarcastic. There's almost no way to lose Capela since he's an RFA. There's a chance he takes the QO just to leave next summer though which would be hilarious.

Capela is not a max player. I side with Houston on this one.

He doesn't have to be a max guy, but they apparently low balled him on their first offer and he hasn't found any traction anywhere else.

If I were him, playing for the QO might be the right move.
