Sadly, I don’t think that’s gonna happen, man. SW fans are the literal worst. They ruined Jake Lloyd’s life and he was just a little kid. And Rian Johnson has been defiant, he hasn’t gotten down on his knees and apologized and begged to be let back into these fans hearts, he’s said he ignores criticism, he’s called the haters manbabies, I think it’s over for him and SW. The “fans” shouldn’t win in this situation, but sadly I think they will because the bottom line rules all, Disney can’t lose money on these films. I think it’s awful for the franchise, because I see him bringing in the freshness it is sorely lacking, but I guess fans want the same old same old, yet apparently don’t at the same time because they didn’t go see Solo, the most bland, safest, innocuous SW movie I could possibly think of if asked to do so.

We'll see. There was tons of backlash with Empire too. People hated the twist, the reverse sequence of the action set pieces was off putting, and the movie was met luke warm (no pun intended) for critics and fans alike. I think in a few years people will start to see what TLJ is.

I think the Internet makes things wayyyyyy worse. Now these idiots can band together and all be racist and sexist in large groups and get that support and camaraderie. Like I said, SW fans are the literal worst. The hate for TFA was strong too, it’s just been drowned out by the hate for TLJ now. I remember when the freakin trailers came out people were pissed because we were getting a black stormtrooper as a lead. Then the movie came out and it wa “Rey is a Mary Sue! Women can’t be that strong, this is anti-men!”. It just doesn’t stop. I don’t even know how Disney fixes this, because you can’t give into these idiots, yet they refuse to keep screaming about this stuff and trying to ruin the enjoyment of SW for the rest of us, it’s making fandom less fun, and it’s honestly making us all look bad. I have a Rebel symbol tattoo, I walk around as a proud hardcore SW fan, but again, it’s really being crapped on right now, it’s so toxic it’s disturbing. At least during the prequel era when we argued about the movies it was ABOUT the movies mostly, the plot, the action, the fights, the canon, that sort of stuff.

I dont disagree with any of that, I just think people have generally short attention spans. In a year and a half most of the general audience will have forgotten about the horrid TLJ reception among fans. I'm still holding out hope for Solo 2 honestly. I think fans are going to eat that movie up in home sales and digital downloads. We'll see. I completely agree with your point, I just think SW fans also LOVE to be upset so they'll eat up another movie to get mad at. :D

We definitely disagree on this. I think fans genuinely didn’t care about a Solo movie. I think it had a “big” opening weekend because it’s Star Wars and the hardcore fans went, and then it dropped off the map because nobody else cared. I think Disney majorly misread the room on that one. I also read an article the other day that said it was poorly marketed and I agree. They waited way too long on the first trailer for it, and when they finally released it, it had like 5 seconds of actual Solo in it, it was like they were trying to hide the guy.

Harrison Ford is Han Solo, I’m not interested in anyone else playing the part, and that creates apathy towards the movie. It doesn’t make me upset that someone else is playing the role, I think long time role recasting is something we’ll have to get used to, it just makes me shrug. When I saw the first trailer I wasn’t feeling it. Second one was a little better, but I still really didn’t care. If a SW trailer doesn’t make me care about the movie, they failed, because that was a first for me. I think digital and Blu-ray sales will be fine for Solo, help them recoup some money, but not top of the charts for weeks awesome. I’ll rent it at a Redbox or wait for it to come to Netflix honestly, I’m not joking when I say I don’t care. I actually watched Jenny Nicholson’s 50 minute long review/breakdown of the movie on YouTube today, and that was probably more entertaining to me than I feel the movie would be, I was cracking up.

It's fine, I dont expect you to agree. When you see the movie and realize it's a fun ride, you'll come around. I genuinely believe that. The movie is going to do well at home when people aren't so vitriolic about it. Watch it hit Netflix and gain steam. I can feel it coming.

Ruin Johnson deserves all the backlash. Its one thing to make an atrocious movie, but like Weezy said, he's calling people with legit gripes names.

I'm of the opinion that once Episode 9 comes out and is as disjointed from 8 as 8 was from 7 (since they are literally by their own admission making it up as they go) even the people who liked TLJ will see the light...and by light I mean they will see it for the steaming pile of walrus s*** it is.

Nope. It'll fit like a glove between two other movies. I'd say you'll see, but you probably aren't going to see the light.

:D Whoa whoa whoa, I didn’t say that, at least I didn’t intend to. Rian Johnson called these fans exactly what he should have, if not worse. Calling the idiots that ran Kelly Marie Tran off Instagram “manbabies” was putting it politely. I agree with what he said. My point was that because he didn’t get down and beg for forgiveness from these idiots that they’ll continue to try and make his life hell, as well as those of fans who actually do enjoy his movie, and for that reason I don’t know if Disney can allow him to put out a movie if they intend to make a profit.

When I see the movie, and I will, I will post my honest thoughts on it. But don’t be surprised if they aren’t positive, because I’m already incredibly apathetic going in. There is a chance that will lead me to be pleasantly surprised though, as I’ve already been super disappointed by multiple movies that were up for the best picture Oscar this year, or that had great reviews from people I trust or in general were highly regarded. It’s possible having zero hype going in can help, because it certainly hurt in those other cases, where I don’t even typically tend to care about reviews, I like what I like. But there’s a disturbing trend in a lot of recent films of them having very little story or basic film arc or what I’d call even a beginning, middle, and end formula. Stuff just happened, and then the movie is over.

It's entirely possible that you will dislike the plot, but given your rock bottom expectations, I expect you'll enjoy it. That's how I felt too honestly. Now I'd be happy to see a sequel. I do agree it was poorly marketed. Disney should have pushed it until December.

That freshness being a 70s American crime drama view of the world?

I doin't think changing directors during the process is safe. rerplacing icons also isn't.

They will be forced to open up a new era and it will be plenty fresh.

    What is TLJ?

You have that impression because all they had is Lucas. The prequels was a mess, i would have preferred a direct to dvd movie director who gets Star Wars make those.

They don't really hate Kotor, Republic Commando, even Clone Wars has a lot of fans.

Solo is now expected to top out at around 325-350 million worldwide. Most of the people I have talked to that have seen it actually did enjoy it. So if the word-of-mouth is good, why aren't people going to watch it? What could possibly be keeping the most passionate film fan base from seeing a good movie? That damn tiny, insignificant, vocal minority of manbabies. We are so pesky. How could the 15 of us cause so much trouble. Unless of course it's not 15 of us and likely closer to 5,000,000 times that.

Extreme pettiness. Sulking. Depriving themselves of a good SW movie viewing experience to take some sort of weird stand that isn’t really unified or realistic in its goal.

If thats true it’s really sad. Sad like in a pathetic way.

I mean, 325 million for a Star Wars movie kind of signals quite a bit of unity, and rumors are flying everywhere that Kathleen Kennedy may step down, which probably means no Ruin Johnson trilogy...so the goal seems within reach.

And why is it sad or pathetic that millions of people thought a movie was horrible and are willing to voice their displeasure with their wallets? Kind of having trouble following that logic.

I’m still not seeing a unified goal. Some people want Rian Johnson away from SW, I’m not one of them, I’d be happy to see what movies he could make Some people want Kathleen Kennedy away, I am one one of them, because there has been too much turmoil under her, and far too many directors hired and fired. Your particular goal is not everyone’s, despite what you may think, which is why the goal isn’t unified.

What do a lot of these people boycotting hope to accomplish? They seriously think that Disney is going to see Solo’s box office numbers, and go, “oh ok, we were wrong, time to give into the fan demands, no more prominent roles for women, and no more black or Asian people in the movies”? Because that’s all I can see as the objective here. I get that that isn’t YOUR goal, but Disney isn’t going to stop making SW movies the way they have been because people don’t like change, and for thar reason the boycott is entirely silly to me. To boycott is to assist those with that misogynistic, racist, homophobic goal of “making Star Wars ‘great’ again”. Sadly these people have been given a shot of courage and a feeling that they now have the duty or right to speak out since that moron was put into the White House, but I’m hoping in time they’ll go back into their holes.

These idiots aren’t going to be satisfied if Rian Johnson is fired and Kennedy steps down. They’ll find a new issue next, they’ll find fault with SW until it’s exactly what they want, which I’m honestly not sure they even know what that is. Reality is, if they love SW exactly the way it was, they have the originals to watch, they have the option to pretend the new movies don’t exist. Star Wars isn’t a cause, it’s a movie franchise. World hunger, cleaning up the oceans, racism, sexism, false imprisonment, child abuse, these are causes. Fighting to get Star Wars directors fired because they don’t like how men and women are portrayed in the movies isn’t a cause, it’s a waste of time, it’s childish and silly. That, is what’s pathetic, and I’ll stand by that statement every time.

See, I disagree. I think the people who are pissed, the vast majority, dont care about having a female or black man or Asian. It's the over the top neutering of all male characters and the destruction of Luke and the original trilogy's legacy. The racists and sexists I doubt even watch Star Wars. They just jump into comment sections to troll. Its completely anecdotal, but most of the people that I know hated the Last Jedi and none of them hate women or black people. If Solo bombing like this in the box office was a result of racists and sexists, that would mean a massive amount of Star Wars fans are horrible people.
