Raiders living up to the Halfway House of The NFL.

Lynch showed production mid point of the season...even if it looked like a PR move to begin with. Sean Smith was fine when Pagano took over. Crabtree lost his mind. Aldon Smith was just a lost cause. Once the battery charges were known, Mark Davis who passionately opposes it just felt he's seen enough.

Del Rio just lost control of the locker room. Even before that...letting Musgrave walk for an unproven commodity in Downing?

Gruden cleaned house when he took over the first time. Won't surprise me if he did it again.

We signed a backup WR, special teams guy. An article on the signing downplayed Paterson’s kickoff return skills. Dude would have led the league in return average if he’d had more returns. For about the fourth time in his career.

Tavecchio retained...Jano era now OFFICIALLY over. Sigh... T Newhouse cut.

Always dig the NFL free agency period as to who is going where.

Broncos to land Keenum...a rich man's Trevor Siemian. Mocks have them drafting U.C.L.A. QB Rosen.

    Cousins to Minny...

    Do I like that!? Yes!

I hope the Rams sign Crabtree just for the ****s and giggles of having him and Talib. :D

Seriously...Crabtree if his head is screwed on right would make a really good possession receiver for Goff. On a three wide set, Kupp in the slot with two outside of Crabtree and another that can take the top off coverage (was Watkins) would make a good trio.

Crabtree can also go long if necessary. Yeah, practices would be sight to see with those two.

Ex Buc RB Doug Martin...Washington or Richard could be out.

Ex Cowboy FB Keith Smith. Gruden looking for his Jon Ritchie 2.0.

TE's Lee Smith and Carrier. Blockers to solidify the line.

Gotta think about these. Hot takes: Nelson is an overpay, Martin might mean Lynch is gone, too. FB could be a good add. It’s not a deep position league wide. He’s allegedly a bad blocker.

I read that the Nelson is similar to Crabtree's but mostly guaranteed. I'm not sure if he is the same player he was. Can Nelson still separate himself from coverage? He does have good hands, runs precise routes.

Crabtree's production was due to inept coaching and Carr's injury. Was clutch... Loved him as a Raider and will miss him. Scheduled to visit Baltimore now.

Smith a bad blocker? Don't know how that came about since he cleared the way for Elliot in Dallas. Or at least, that is what is said.

RB Martin... I hope this doesn't become a failed experiment like the Maurice Jones-Drew one.

S Marcus Gilchrist looks to be on board... Goodbye Reggie Nelson.

LB Tahir Whitehead? I want Bowman back!

I’ll find the blocking stats when i get back to civilization. Camping.

The Rashaan Melvin rumors are getting me hopeful.

    CHANGES

Position / Player with most snaps at that position / likely replacement
    -take on player 1
    --take on player 2
    ---evaluation

    DE Denico Autry/ Mario Edwards?
-Autry was a 78.6 at PFF, 56th among DI.
    --Edwards was a 72.8, 85th among DI.
---Autry did a respectable job putting pressure on QBs. Edwards is, however, the better player here, and he simply needs to remain healthy. Not an easy ask, but he has played 34 of the last 48 games he has been on roster.

    CB TJ Carrie/Rashaan Melvin?
-Smith was a 73.1 at PFF, 75th among CBs
--Melvin was 85.7 at PFF, 17th among CBs
---Melvin is a massive upgrade here, ranking as one of the top 50 Free Agents on numerous sites. Huge score for the Raiders.

    WR Michael Crabtree/Jordy Nelson
    -Crabtree was a 71.4, 62nd among WRs.
    --Nelson was a 74.9, 50th among WRs.
---Crabtree has been a steady producer for Oakland, averaging 74 catches, 881 yards, and 8 TDs. In Nelson's last three, he averaged 83 reception, 1086 yards, and 11 TDs. Neither was particularly good last year, and Nelson is two years older. I can only imagine that Crabtree's strong personality has something to do with Gruden (I imagine, rather than just McKenzie) moving on from him.

    LS Jon Condo/Andrew DePaola
    -Condo is a long-time Raider.
--DePaola was a top 10 snapper in terms of accuracy last year.
---DePaola is likely an upgrade but probably overpaid for what he'll offer.

    PK Sebastian Janikowski/Giorgio Tavecchio
-Janikowski has struggled to stay healthy, but he has been a gamer, missing just 1 game in 15 seasons before missing all of last season.
--Tavecchio doesn't have the leg strength or the accuracy, but he can still make the long kicks (3/4 at 50+).
---Tavecchio seems like an adequate kicker, and he's bargain priced.

    QB EJ Manuel/?
-Manuel posted a 72.6 at PFF in limited time.
--This is not a position of priority at this point.

    DB Keith McGill/Shareece Wright
-McGill posted a 74.1 at PFF in limited time.
--Wright posted a 69.9 at PFF, 82nd among CBs.
---McGill hasn't done much for the Raiders, starting 3 games across four seasons, and totaling an Added Value of 4. In Wrights' last four seasons, he has started 34 games, totaling 13 AV. It's probably a wash here, but McGill may have more remaining in his tank. Either way, you don't want these guys starting.

    FS Reggie Nelson/Marcus Gilchrist?
-Nelson posted a 75.3 at PFF, 56th among safeties.
--Gilchrist posted a 77.2 at PFF, 51st among safeties.
--Nelson will be 35, and his AV has dropped each of the past two seasons. Gilchrist is five years his junior, has a much lower ceiling, but he also has a higher floor at this point in their careers.

    LB NaVorro Bowman?/Tahir Whitehead?
-Bowman posted an 84.8 at PFF, 11th among LBs
--Whitehead posted a 79.6 at PFF, 25th among LBs
---Bowman was a stud against the run, but Whitehead might be no slouch. Bowman was excellent with Oakland, but he had a poor showing in his last season and 5 games with San Francisco. Meanwhile, Whitehead has been consistently and solid for the past four seasons.

    ROLES?
    RB Doug Martin
-Nelson is an enigma, with a 48.5 rating, 53rd among RBs, at PFF. He has had two Pro-Bowl caliber seasons (in which he accounted for 3600 yards and 19 TDs) and four forgettable seasons, in which he totaled 2100 yards and 9 TDs. He has failed to average 3 yards per carry over his last two seasons.
--Jalen Richard posted a 70.8 at PFF, while DeAndre Washington posted a 56.0. Both players were limited in terms of effectiveness, but both were far better players than Doug Martin. Washington gets bottled up just about as much as Martin, but he has 300 yards receiving over the last two years. Richard's problem is fumbles; he has averaged over 5 yards per rush and has hauled in 56 passes over the past two seasons. Martin has struggled to stay on the field the last two seasons, and he has caught fewer than 15 passes in four of his six seasons.

    FB Keith Smith
-Smith posted a 40.3 grade at PFF, 13th among FBs.
    --Olawale posted a 64.4.
---Smith hasn't run the ball much - 2 carries in four seasons - or caught the ball much - 8 receptions for 46 yards. Olawale has rushed 200 yards and caught more than 300 yards worth of passes over the last three seasons. He has scored 5 times in that span.

    WR Griff Whalen
    -Meh.

    EDGE Tank Carradine
-Carradine posted a 78.1 as an Edge Rusher last season. He has played in only 44 of the 65 games he has been in the league, and he has started only 8 of those, but 7 came last season, as he posted a 3 Added Value. He posted 4 QB Hits and 1 sack last season. Interestingly, he's best statistically against the run.
--Personal: along with Rodney Hudson, this is the second Nole currently on Oakland's roster whom I knew during my time at FSU. Pretty awesome. This dude was a giant even then, by the way.

    Okay. I'm getting excited.

Looking at Oakland's top snap players in the secondary 2017:
    TJ Carrie 84.3
    Sean Smith 73.1
    Dexter McDonald 61.9
    Karl Joseph 80.8
    Reggie Nelson 75.3

    Now likely:
    Rashaan Melvin 85.7 (+1.4)
    Gareon Conley 79.6 (+6.5)
    Shareece Wright 69.9 (+8.0)
    Karl Joseph (0)
    Marcus Gilchrist 77.2 (+1.9)
--Every position is likely to be improved (I presume Joseph will get better). Plus Obi Melifonwu (49.4) should improve

I was scratching my head at the beginning of FA, but now I see the vision. Oakland might let Bowman walk and draft a LB early.

Roquan Smith - seems to be the consensus best fit at LB for Oakland.
