Either that, or he's always been below average as a rebounder, and the coaches have found a way to hide that weakness better.

Luke: "Brolo, we don't want you to focus on rebounding any more."

Lopez: ***excited heavy breathing*** "Thank you coach. I love you. I'll sign for the MLE."

Yeah, he definitely could walk into a rebound or two... Zero boards is hard to justify.

But other than the 2011/12 season he missed due to injury, for his career he averaged 7 boards per game. He comes here and averages 3.7 per contest.

Add to that the minutes reduction (avg 32.2 mins as a Net vs 21.8 min as a Laker) and it tells you his "sacrifice".

He's a free agent and in a market dictated by stats (some contacts have stat dependant bonuses/incentives), he is being a team player. Which is why I believe he intends to stay here for a home town discount (didn't even ask for a buyout to go join a contender).

but even if he's sacrificing, he's taking it to never before seen levels. That's all I'm sayin'

Both of you are 100% right. This was a bad game rebounding the ball, but Brook is absolutely giving himself to this team. I believe he loves playing here in his home town for the Lakers. I too believe he plans on giving us a great shot at signing him. I think he either knows or assumes we're on the cusp of making some big moves this summer and he wants to be a part of that.

He's doing what we're asking of him and he deserves a ton of credit for that when he could be playing selfishly or foolishly (see Isaiah Thomas or Caldwell-Pope in the game against Portland).

That being said, even if he's boxing out every play for someone else, there's not one rebound? :D Even Brook after the game said he has to do better (in fact he said he always has to do better, part of why I like him).

i like lopez, but during the parts of the game i watched, i thought he was hurting more than helping. the effort on the boards was really bad, obviously, but even on defense, i just didn't like his game last night. i missed most of the second half, though, so he must have picked it up a bit. i just thought he was getting worked in terms of d and rebounding.

i'd welcome him back next year on a low-money deal. and i actually think it might be possible. my ideal scenario would be finding a way to move deng's salary such that lebron and george could sign with enough left over to sign lopez to a one-year deal. then we could turn around the next year and use bird rights to pay him a bit more to end his career.

Perfect type of big in the Golden State kind of system to give you 20-25 quality minutes and can match up with other legit bigs.

The rest of the time, run them off the floor with smaller lineups and can switch them to death.

oh, and then there's this

Very streaky with his shooting...would love if he could bring that 3PT% up to 36-37% next year (if he's back)

Isn't his cap hold going to be too big? Even if he's willing to take a discount, don't we have to renounce him to make room for our max FAs?

I think the only way he comes back is for the room exception.

He can still re-sign with us if he wants to after we waive his Bird Rights.

Got it. Thanks. I thought there was some rule against signing a player whose bird-rights you renounce, within a year.

His slowness isnt detering his scoring in the paint n you don't need to be fast to shoot 3s

No problem. I think there's some rules about waiving a player under contract and immediately re-signing them, but we're just waiving his Bird Rights which means we can't give him the 7.5% raise annually.

I love continuity so I want to resign most of our FAs, especially Lopez who if Kupcrap was smart enough could have taken the place of Mozdeng, in a way that he is a lumbering oaf and a great locker room presence.

Trust me, I’m in the same boat. But at the room exception, he would be a significant steal.

Especially if he starts going back in th paint like he did last night.

The guy when he needs to can run the floor just fine. He moves around and protects the rim on D also not at the slo motion pace. To me it just seems the really slow looking movements are when he is making his offensive moves in the key. Even there because of his size he is still scoring the ball. The slow motion rap is overrated.
