I don’t understand why this bothers people. I forget about it almost immediately after it comes out, LaVar is irrelevant.

How do we not have a shrug emoticon here? Look what I had to resort to using.

I was never that high on Lonzo as a player to begin with (even if he didn't have Daddy baggage). To me I think his ceiling is somewhere between Ricky Rubio and Rajon Rondo in their prime. Both very good point guards but never an allstar calibre player.

Why I say the Rubio/Rondo comparison is because I see Lonzo being a hybrid of both. Not a great shooter and probably never will be. Rondo was a excellent rebounder for a point guard, with Rubio's size as a point guard. The only difference now I see is that Lonzo is not good at creating shots for his teammates or running a offense in halfcourt sets. Rondo was excellent at this in being able to penetrate and get to the rim and kicking out to open shooters.

Having said that, there is baggage and distraction that comes with Lonzo in his daddy. I know Magic/Pelinka has labelled Lonzo as untouchable but I wouldn't be too upset if he was traded for another young and upcoming prospect.......or if he was the sacrifical lamb to initiate the domino effect to get both Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins via a three way trade of some sort.

    i.e.
    Pelicans get Clarkson, Ball, Zubac
Thunder get KCP, Randle, Future 1st round pick from Pelicans
    Lakers get George, Cousins

Pelicans/Thunder only agree to this sort of scenario at the trade deadline when they don't have confidence either Cousins or George will re-sign in the summer. Lakers will get bird rights for George/Cousins, paving the way to retain them long term..... we wouldn't even have to stretch Deng if we didn't want to because of their bird rights and can go over the cap to re-sign both.

Lakers would still have to do some work in the offseason to get a solid point guard rotation. However, that could be done if we can get someone like Cory Joseph...or maybe Dante Exam (for cheap since he's coming off a long injury, and he's a former Pelinka client). Lakers could also explore trying to trade for a point guard. Malcom Brogdon from Milwaukee would be high on my wish list since he's be delegated to backup point guard with the arrival of Eric Bledsoe. He may be able to be had for Larry Nance or another front court player, as Milwaukee does not have much depth with big men.

I present to you.... your 2018/19 Lakers:

    Cousins/Bryant
    Kuzma/Deng (ugh)
    PG13/Brewer (re-signed for minimum)
    Ingram/Hart
Brogdon/backup PG with whatever money leftover.

You have to go into sirron's main library for a great animated Kobe shrug.

So you have zero problem. If you read Plashke's article I posted and the highlighted parts in red that is exactly why. No way in hell can LaVar Ball be anything but a minus factor when FA's are considering us. Read his wording about that which I mentioned too yesterday. Then the cheap shotting of the coaching situation. If it wasn't bad why are respected and accomplished coaches up in arms immediately? And yeah teammates gotta kinda wonder where is LaVar's self proclaimed inside information coming from since Lonzo falls right in lock step with the old man and blows it off. I'll play for any coach. Oh really. Big of you Lonzo .... thanks for the vote of confidence. I'd be willing to bet he was taught that line early on for going forward in his career. Anyway just me rambling out of frustration again but this has potentially very negative impact going forward if allowed to continue. Why did Magic and Rob meet with LaVar and Lonzo's agent the first time. Of course YMMV.

I did read the Plaschke article, and I thought it was laughable, especially this part

He suggests Lonzo isn’t good enough to put up with the occasional LaVar quote, and that is so laughable to me it’s not even worth acknowledging. Yeah, let’s trade a pure PG the kind of which you see like once a decade because his dad is annoying. Only Plaschke could be that ridiculous and over the top, such a sensationalist.

I don't at all agree with his assessment of Lonzo not being what you just described and I agree with. And yesterday I called the threat of trading Lonzo at some point down the road at a time of their choosing the Nuclear option. What else can they do. If Lonzo and the family truly want his career to be here with the L.A. Lakers nice and close to home then the behavior needs to be modified. Lonzo could put a stop to it and should. This is no longer high school or even college. His EMPLOYER has many millions of dollars tied up in him hopefully for a long time and riding on how well their best laid plans come to fruition. His father is f****** with all of that now. Let him be as big a buffoon anywhere and everywhere else but keep the Lakers out of his mouth.

What else can they do? Ignore him. :D The dude talks, that’s all, he talks, it’s so a non-issue I cannot fathom why we are even discussing it. Lavar’s 15 mins will end in time anyway, if not next season, then over the course of Lonzo’s rookie contract. We’re only making a mountain out of this now because we suck and have nothing else to talk about, if we were good everyone wouldn’t say a word about LaVar. If the 2018 plan works we may never hear from him again honestly, nobody is gonna talk about LaVar if the Lakers suddenly add 2 stars.

Because it is. :D Stop putting a microphone in front of him. He’s like a troll, if you don’t respond he has no power. He gets clicks right now, but that’s not going to last for years, ESPN is driving this and they will get bored eventually. They sent a f****** reporter to Lithuania with him otherwise we wouldn’t have heard a peep from him since he left. Before that one of their reporters that covers the warriors caught him and interviewed him in the stands. This is all ESPN, and like Tim Tebow, and Johnny Football, and other such click getting stories before him, he will go away.

This is a lot bigger than that in my opinion. I guarantee you right now Magic and Rob are furious with him.

Of course it is, you’re a Lakers fan. Outside of our little bubble this guy only matters because people click on stories about him for a laugh. Star free agents aren’t going to avoid our franchise because of LaVar Ball, if they don’t come here it’s because we suck. This is not the first annoying sports parent, it’s just a new thing for US.

You're not persuading me so guess we agree to disagree. But ignoring him and thinking it won't get worse or he's going to fade away with public disruptive statements about the Lakers if not somehow persuaded to stop is kind of :D Seriously no offense I just liked this a lot.
