It's called different countries having different rules, laws and cultures. Look it up, there's a reason why theft crimes in the US happen 10 times more frequently than in China.

You make it sound like it's okay to steal. Doesn't matter if it's sunglasses or a car, you don't steal, period. You don't steal when your family is in the spotlight, while raking in a ton of money. You don't steal when you are there as part of a program as big as UCLA. You don't steal in China when you are a foreigner/tourist, they will make an example of you.

And they are plenty who would, i knew some that had wealthy parents...

    He like 16, right...

Maybe if he was not famous what happens is that the store owner who is well connected with the Party shows up at you house with his goons and breaks your arm. Than he leaves...

He’s 18, about to turn 19 actually. He’s technically an adult, this isn’t some dumb kid mistake, it’s an incredibly idiotic thing to do.

I dunno does this qualify as me losing the bet? If this is his stance maybe best not to be saying it in China now where the quotes can get picked up while they're figuring out what they're going to do with your kid? (Article also says once formal charges are made ..... 99% conviction rate)

“He’ll be fine. He’ll be fine,” LaVar Ball later told a reporter. “Everybody making it a big deal. It ain’t that big of a deal.

UCLA trio could face lengthy legal proceeding in China; basketball team moves on without them

If I were UCLA, I'd cut him off the team.

The youngest kid probably isn't playing there anyway and I'm not dragging my program through the mud for a kid who isn't going to make the NBA. Get rid of him.

And if I were Lavar, I'm announcing that LiAngelo is being pulled from school effective immediately. I'd take away the fancy cars and the nice clothes. The kid doesn't deserve them.

If ever there was a time for LaVar to be contrite, it’s now. He needs the Chinese government to believe he and his son are beyond sorry. Whether he feels that way or not. It needs to be an Oscar winning performance.

Well Big Baller Brand ...... aside from middle Baller being caught shoplifting at exclusive Louie Vuitton store and facing possible prison time, missing the UCLA game and likely being booted off the team with scholarship gone, and being thoroughly disingenuous (twice) to major Chinese sports media company and Film media company and Fan commitments, highly pissing everyone off ..... how was that China trip? Goodwill for your brand and from the country that makes your shoes (and other merchandise?) completely flushed down this $100,000 golden Louis Vuitton toilet ... ?

China has a different view of due process but they're meticulous and shoot people in the head only after convictions unlike North Korea who truth serum idiot teenagers to death.

To be fair UCLA should not have to remind their players not to steal. Should just go without saying. I blame this on just stupidity and being too young, or thinking they're just better than everyone. I hate to say this but China should make an example out of these kids. Just because your college basketball players that play at UCLA and are from the US doesn't mean you can get away from this.
