I see the need, but ehhhh.... none of those guys are a difference maker for a ring. The argument is real but the evidence is weak.
kills trade value/market. the mavs ended up cutting williams, but should have been able to trade him, given the interest in the market. i don't know what the solution is, but it is a problem.
Put a bunch of rules in place and weird s*** happens as a result. On one hand, allowing those players to sign with a playoff team actually facilitates those buyouts in some cases. If they're looking for a fix, allow trades or do something like what the NFL does, where if a player signs "your FA," they owe you a pick depending upon how you designate the player. E.g., if we wanted to waive Deng, we could either buy him out and he'd have to sit out the remainder of the season or another team could claim him, pick up some of the finances, and owe us a 2nd rounder. Or, if they want to be responsible for none of his salary from the buyout, they owe us a 1st. If they don't have a pick, they can't sign him.
